Loveland
Colorado Shopping Loveland Colorado is
the home to more shopping than any city in Colorado per capita of
population. In just the last three years it has become the leading
regional shopping area in Northern Colorado. It has even surpassed it's
northern neighbor of Fort Collins.
The major reason for this dramatic
change was a developer named McWhinney Enterprises. In the beginning the
family owned a large farm and property near the major interchange of
I-25 and Colorado 34 and as they say the rest is history. Their 3000
acre shopping, office and office parks is named Centerra.
Before this development took place
there already existed two old major features and one new feature at this
location. One was the Cloverleaf Dog Track and the other a large factory
store complex. The race track has since closed but the factory stores
are still a successful part of this new Loveland Colorado shopping area.
However, the feature which seems to
have started it all is the Larimer County Fairgrounds and
Budweiser Events Center.
This complex was a combination of moving the old fairgrounds from near
downtown Loveland and the building of a brand new events center to not
only serve Larimer County but all the small towns and cities north of
Denver, which is 45 miles to the south.
This Loveland Colorado shopping area
is anchored by the Promenade
Shops at Centerra. This is a major new lifestyle shopping center
which has many new innovative features. The Centerra development is 3000
acres at the intersection of I-25 and Colorado 34. Also at this section
is a new development by Chrisland Development call fittingly 2534
which
is also under development and has shops, restaurants and offices.
Another large shopping complex is
along highway 34 on the east side of I-25 called
the Marketplace. This
area has big box stores and small shopping area mixed in with the many
restaurants and hotels in this area. Centerra probably has more shopping
and hotels than the
rest of the city combined. However, this too is changing as large
department stores like Kohl's and Lowes locate just down the road.
Just up the road, north, is the
newest lifestyle center and the largest by a few thousand square feet,
called Front Range Village. This new center is located in Fort Collins
on Harmony Road just 1.5 miles west of I-25.
West of Loveland is the Big Thompson
Canyon a spectacular entrance to the rocky mountains. Forty Five miles
west on highway 34 up the Big Thompson Canyon is the city of
Estes Park Village. This
little towns main street is were locals and tourists who are not roaming
around in the mountains like to shop. There are many unusual stores
here.
The
Promenade Shops main attractions is Macy's, Dicks Sporting Goods, a
twelve screen movie theater and Barnes and Noble Booksellers. Also
included are fine shops and restaurants.
2534 is adding to the mix.
Located just south of the Promenade Shops across highway 34 it already
has specialty shops, Starbucks, fine
restaurants and office space. Here are a few
photos to show you how it might look.
